Sunday School Newsletter Our Sunday school attendance has been great and the children really like the 4 week rotation workshops we are doing. Daniel and the Lion was the story the children learned about in January. February’s 4 week rotation story is Jesus and John the Baptist. February 5th: We start our 4th rotation story, Jesus and John the Baptist and we will celebrate baptismal birthdays for: Rose Rodey, Emi Frank, Chevy Dillon, Helayna Brown and Anthony DesCamps. Family day February 12th is for all SS families (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.). We will have a variety of fun games and snacks. Family Day last year was a huge success so I hope to see more families this year... So, please do not just drop your child off; come in and join them as they participate in the fun activities. Plus, it’ll be nice to see all of you J. If anyone wants to help plan activities/games/snacks for this let me know. I could use the help! February 26th: The children sing in church. The 4 week rotation for February is: MEMORY WORK: We continue to practice the Apostle’s Creed, the 10 Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer each Sunday. The Apostle’s Creed and 10 Commandments we review during opening and we end the Sunday school hour with the Lord’s Prayer. So, each week is repetition and the children have the first 5 commandments down pretty good. I have had some parents inquire about how they can help with Sunday school and about the children not knowing their memory work. I will first touch base on the memory work. In Sunday school we do not have a lot time to really go over the memory work that we have as required for the children. Each year, at the end of August, every family is mailed a Sunday school packet and in that packet is the memory work required for each grade. The memory work is included so you know what is required of your child and for you to help your child with their memory work. This is something they will need going into confirmation and is going to be very useful for them throughout their lives. The past 3 years I have really been trying to figure out how we can implement the memory work into our Sunday school hour. It’s been a bit difficult especially since we’ve started the workshop rotation. Once the teachers and children are in their rooms they only have 45 minutes to read the bible story and then doing the activity that goes with it—this does take a while to do.
