"In Christ, We Preach, Teach and Live God's Word."
All Christians are "In Christ." That's where we come from. Christ is the neighborhood, the environment, the atmosphere in which we live and move and have our being. As the baptized children of God, we come first and foremost not from our families, nor from Menomonie, nor from the USA, nor from the world. We come from Christ.
"In Christ we..." Whatever we do, we do first, because of whose we are. Secondly, we do it together. Whatever those in Christ do, they do it not as individuals but as part of a community - a community that finds its identity in relationship with God and, through God, with one another. "In Christ we..." not "I".
Our relationships drive what we do - how we live and move and have our being in the other places in which we find ourselves: in our families, our communities, our nation, our world, at work and at play. We do what those in Christ are called to do: "preach, teach and live God's Word."
"God's Word" refers, as most people would assume, to the Bible - the authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, teaching and life. "God's Word" is made visible in the scaraments - Baptism and Holy Communion. But, most of all, "God's Word" is the Living Word that is Jesus Christ - "the Word made flesh." (John 1:14)
So our mission always begins and ends in Jesus Christ. We are "Jesus people" because we believe that if you want to know God, you need to know Jesus.
"In Christ, we preach, teach and live God's Word." That's who we are. That's what we're about. |
